Neighbors involved in the initial planning of the Madrona Woods restoration identified four areas to focus on: removing invasive plants and revegetating with native ones to create a more natural and sustainable urban forest; repairing degraded trails and creating at least one new trail to improve overall safety, ecological impact, and viewing opportunities; using the Woods as a platform for environment education, both for adults and for school children in the nearby public and private schools; and bringing two streams that were out of sight, either under layers of invasive blackberries or in pipes emptying into the storm drains, to the surface and into view. The four projects outlined in this section have enabled Friends of Madrona Woods to make major progress on all of the original four goals.
